About the Distillery
Bunnahabhain Distillery: The Gentle Side of Islay
Perched on the rugged northeastern coast of Islay, Bunnahabhain Distillery stands apart from its neighbours with a unique approach to island whisky. Founded in 1881, Bunnahabhain is known for crafting unpeated or lightly peated single malts—a stark contrast to the heavily smoky style typical of Islay. Its coastal location, overlooking the Sound of Islay, lends a distinctive maritime character to its whiskies, with notes of sea salt, brine, and soft spice woven through a smooth, rich spirit.
Matured predominantly in sherry casks, Bunnahabhain whiskies are celebrated for their complexity, elegance, and depth. Expressions like the 12 Year Old, 18 Year Old, and the limited edition releases highlight flavours ranging from dried fruit and nuts to toffee, oak, and gentle smoke. With its commitment to traditional methods, natural colour, and non-chill filtration, Bunnahabhain offers a refined Islay experience—inviting both newcomers and seasoned whisky lovers to explore a quieter, more contemplative side of the island.
