Westward Original Single Malt American Whiskey (700ml, 45% ABV)

Price

$139.00

Westward Original is the flagship American single malt from Westward Whiskey in Portland, Oregon – a bold, balanced whiskey that sits somewhere between a Scotch-style single malt and a classic American bourbon.

It's made grain to glass from two-row barley malted in the American Northwest. The distillery brews its own ale, ferments it with craft ale yeast and double pot distils it, then matures the spirit in new, heavily toasted and lightly charred American oak barrels. Oregon's hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters drive a lively interaction between spirit and oak.

Expect a robust, well-balanced dram spanning malt, bright fruit, warm spice and toasted oak – a fascinating alternative for Scotch lovers curious about the new wave of American single malt.

Enjoy as you please. Try adding a few drops of water to open up the flavours.

About the Distillery

Westward Whiskey was founded in Portland, Oregon in 2004 by distiller Christian Krogstad, and has grown into one of the leading names in the fast-emerging American single malt category. Working grain to glass, the distillery uses barley grown and malted in the Pacific Northwest, brews and ferments its own ale-style wash, and double pot distils it in small batches.

Westward calls its approach “Minimalist Distilling” – a deliberately unhurried, inefficient process designed to keep as much of the grain’s character as possible. Maturing in new American oak in Oregon’s changeable climate, its whiskeys combine the depth of a traditional single malt with the richness of American oak, offering a distinctly American take on a classic Scottish style.
