Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey (700ml, 46% ABV)
$449.00
Midleton Very Rare Barry Crockett Legacy honours one of Irish whiskey's great figures. Barry Crockett was born in the Master Distiller's house at Midleton, followed his father into the role, and spent decades shaping the distillery's whiskeys. When this release joined the permanent range in 2011, it was the first time since John Jameson that an Irish Distillers whiskey had been named after a Master Distiller.
It's a single pot still Irish whiskey - a style unique to Ireland, made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and triple distilled in copper pot stills. Unlike the sherried style of its stablemate Redbreast, Barry Crockett Legacy is matured exclusively in American bourbon barrels, with a subtle contribution from pot still spirit aged in unseasoned (new) American oak. The result is fresh, fruity and elegant: vanilla and toasted oak, lime, pear and green berries on the nose, then light pepper giving way to citrus and mandarin sweetness, finishing on clean American oak.

About the Distillery
Midleton Distillery in County Cork is the largest distillery in Ireland and the home of single pot still whiskey, a style unique to Ireland. Whiskey has been made at Midleton since 1825, and the modern distillery, built alongside the original in 1975, now produces many of Ireland's best-known whiskeys, including Jameson, Redbreast, Powers, Green Spot and Midleton Very Rare.
Midleton Very Rare is the distillery's prestige range. First released in 1984, the annual Midleton Very Rare vintage was personally selected and signed by the Master Distiller - first Barry Crockett, and since 2013 his successor Brian Nation, followed by Kevin O'Gorman. Alongside the annual vintage sit a small number of permanent expressions, including Barry Crockett Legacy, limited series such as Dair Ghaelach, and the ultra-rare Silent Distillery Collection, which draws on whiskey made in the old Midleton distillery before it closed in 1975.
