Lagavulin Offerman Ed (1st Edition) Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml, 46% ABV)
$699.00
The Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Offerman Edition Aged 11 Years was a marriage made in whisky heaven. This sensational single malt was the product of an authentic collaboration between Nick Offerman and Lagavulin distillery manager Colin Gordon and an ode to the mutual respect and adoration the two share.
Nick Offerman is best known for his role as libertarian government worker Ron Swanson in the cult TV show Parks and Recreation… a "man’s man" who loves meat, woodworking, and Lagavulin whisky – which by sheer coincidence just happened to be Nick’s favourite whisky too. The whisky and even the distillery makes regular appearances on the show across its seven seasons, with Ron declaring Lagavulin 16 Year Old to be his drink of choice, and the nectar of the gods.
Since Parks and Rec wrapped up, Offerman has forged a strong relationship with Lagavulin, and has sipped a dram on New Year’s Eve, Father’s Day, and during the world-renowned Yule Log video that’s become a Christmas favourite for whisky lovers around the world.
Perhaps given this relationship it was inevitable, but in 2019, it finally happened… Lagavulin and Offerman were proud to release the limited edition Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Offerman Edition Aged 11 Years. They followed up this release with another 3, all aged for 11 years, and each aged in different casks:
- 2nd Edition - aged in Guinness Casks
- 3rd Edition - aged in Charred Oak
- 4th Edition - aged in Caribbean Rum Casks
This limited-edition whisky carries the signature Lagavulin peatiness but brings extra spices and notes of dried fruit to carry the smoke. Matured in refill and rejuvenated casks the whisky doesn’t hang about, hitting you with a full-on tingle from the split second it hits your lips, and pronounced fresh berry character combined with spiciness thanks to those rejuvenated casks. Elevated top-notes provide a more direct flavour journey than other Lagavulin expressions, and it all winds down with a peaty, smoky finish that lingers like a smouldering campfire at Ron’s log cabin. As always, a higher ABV never hurts, and at 46% offers a little more oomph than you’ll find in the 16 Year Old. Oh yes, Ron would approve.
We'll give the last word to Nick Offerman himself - “I have travelled the world and sampled many attempts at pleasing nectars, but it is solely this distillation of Islay; a tiny, charismatic Scottish isle, that has claimed my palate. Yea, and my heart into the bargain.”
